Waikoloa Beach Area

Many visitors are familiar with the northern Kohala coast where resort areas, such as those at Waikoloa. Here you will find not only great golf courses and resort-style hotels, but also some good island shopping. The King’s Shops offer exclusive shops such as Louis Vuitton and Tiffany and Company as well as a Macy’s Department store. The shopping center also offers fine dining, simple but great places to have lunch, a Starbucks as well as a gorgeous array of  island swimwear, jewelry, clothing and artwork. Be sure to take a walk along the Petroglyph trail located behind the gas station.

Another fun place to shop and dine in this area is at the Queen’s Marketplace. This newer, upscale mall offers great restaurants, cultural events, clothing and great gifts for that special someone back home. Have dinner, take a peek at intriguing Hawaiian souvenirs and enjoy the friendly ambiance of the place.

Of course, many people come to the Big Island to enjoy the many world-class golf courses located in this area. Great golf courses abound here so be sure to sample golf Hawaii style.

Other visitors are looking to spend time in the sun enjoying the wonderful pools and water activities provided at each resort in this area. Of the Waikoloa resorts, we personally find the Waikoloa Hilton the most fun and interesting. The Hilton offers a tram to get around the complex as well as water taxis that take you from place to place. The Dolphin shows that periodically take place on the grounds are fun to watch and you can even pay to swim with the dolphins if you want. The pools, waterslides, hidden grottos and interior beach areas are wonderful and well maintained. It is definitely worth a visit even if you don’t decide to stay here.
