As you travel north on Highway 56, you will come to the former plantation town of Kilauea. Take Kilauea Road to the point where you will find the Kilauea Lighthouse. This lighthouse was built in 1913 and was used until the 1970’s when it was replaced with a more modern light beacon. You can tour the lighthouse and take gorgeous pictures from high atop the bluff overlooking the Pacific. Open 10 A.M to 4 P.M. daily, the cost to enter the lighthouse is $3.00 per person. If you visit during the winter months, be sure to keep an eye out for frolicking whales playing in the warm Hawaiian waters in this area. |
