Maniniholo Dry Cave

Just before you get to mile marker 9 on Hwy 560 on the north shore, you will find one of the most famous landmarks on Kauai, the Maniniholo Dry Cave. Located across the road from Ha’ena Beach Park, the cave is easily accessible. The high roof of the cave slopes gently downward as you move further toward the back of the cave. It is an interesting stop and worth exploring.

Just past mile marker 9 and the Limahuli Stream are the Wet Caves. Waikanaloa Cave is accessible from the road and Waikapala’e Cave is accessible by a short trail. The upper Waikapala’e Cave contains an underground “Blue Room” accessible only from under water . You will often see people with scuba gear here who are exploring the underground Blue Room.  Hawaiian legend says that the wet caves were dug by the Goddess, Pele who abandoned them then they filled with water.
