One of the easiest falls to get to on Kauai, is the Wailua Falls since you can drive to it and view if from the viewing point near the road. Take Hwy 56 north out of Lihu’e. Just past mile marker, 1 turn left onto Ma’alo Road or Hwy 583. The falls drop into a rather deep pool where people often bath and enjoy the water. There are two trails leading down to the water pools below. One very steep trail next to the viewing spot. If the area is muddy, don’t even attempt this trail. Take the less steep one near the turn around area. Although this path is a bit longer, the slope is more gradual and you are not as likely to be sliding down on your backside from this path. During the wetter months, the falls are full and impressive. During the drier times of the year, the stream of water may not be as dramatic but it is still worth a visit.
