Chinatown

If you want to experience a trip to the orient without leaving Hawaii, then stroll through Honolulu’s Chinatown. This is an authentic Chinatown located just to the north of Hwy 92 between Smith and River Streets. Take a tour of the open air, Kekaulike Marke, located  between King and Hotel street on Kekaulike Street or the Maunakea Market with its Asian Food court. This market traces it’s roots back to the Chinese immigrant populations who came to Hawaii in the 1800’s to serve as laborers in the sugar and pineapple fields. Many went on to leave the fields to establish stores and shops in this area of Honolulu. You can find everything you might want here from fresh seafood to pungent leis and fresh flowers to Chinese gifts. Note the unique architecture and sample the local cuisine when you get hungry. You can spend hours wandering around this area so plan to spend some time visiting this interesting and aromatic area of town. Chinatown can get really busy so the earlier you arrive, the better.
