Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is a crescent-shaped bay located off Hwy 72 on the eastern shore of O’ahu.  This sheltered and protected bay is teeming with fish of every color and hue. Although you can no longer feed the fish, they are still used to people and are not afraid to swim near you. This is a great area to take a mask and boogie board and put your face in the water to observe mother nature at her finest. The bay is generally very mild and there are life-guards to make sure that every stays as safe as possible.  This is a gorgeous spot if you don’t mind the crowds and a bit of rigmarole

The bay is open from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. and is closed on Tuesdays and is always generally crowded so the earlier you arrive, the better off you will be enjoying this wonderful area. Cost is $1 per car and there is a $5 per person entrance fee.  Before you will be allowed to head off to the beach, you will have to watch a short conservation video. You can walk to the beach from the upper level parking lot or spend a couple of dollars to take the tram. The beach has changing areas, concession stands and equipment rental stands.  If you don’t have a car or prefer not to try to park in this crowded area, many Waikiki area hotels can arrange for a tour bus to pick you up and return you to your hotel.
